Floor Barre – New at Toledo Ballet!

Floor Barre image_shutterstock_77754415Toledo Ballet has opened registration for Spring 2017 classes with a new offering in the Conditioning category–Floor Barre.

Floor barre is series of ballet-based exercises that take place from a position on the floor, designed to build strength, improve turn out, and elongate the musculature. Floor barre is also is recommended for dancers who are recovering from injury.

Spring classes begin Monday, January 23 for an 18-week session ending June 4, 2017. Toledo Ballet is offering three different Floor Barre classes for students of varying ages and skill levels.

Ballet is where the real floor barre began, which has now become a popular choice in the fitness industry. Be an original, and come take class where it all began–at the ballet!

Floor Barre for Adults: ages 18 & up
Thursday,
6:00-7:15p.m. (Instructor: Jeanie Hayward, Hartmann Studio)
No prior dance experience needed.The Adult Floor Barre class is perfect for non dancers or beginners who wish to become healthier and stronger, enjoying the benefits of elongated musculature. Because the majority of these ballet-based exercises are conducted from a position on the floor, students do not need to fight gravitational pull. For ballet dancers, a Floor Barre class will enhance and strengthen turnout and body positions, providing focus on proper alignment in ways that will help to make dramatic improvement in ballet technique.

Intro to Ballet: ages 10 – 16
Monday, 6:00-7:15p.m. (Instructor: Ariel Clouse, Hartmann Studio)
A class for the student with no previous ballet experience. Exercises that develop flexibility and strength accompany exercises for alignment and turnout. This class also incorporates Floor Barre, to strengthen and elongate the musculature using ballet exercises done primarily on the floor. Intro to Ballet is perfect for non dancers or beginners who wish to become healthier and stronger, enjoying the benefits of dance training and exercise.
Class instructional time:  75 minutes. Recommended classes per week: 1.

Floor Barre Level 3 and above, ages 10 & up
Thursday, 6:15-7:45p.m. (Instructor: Olivia Terrell, Blade Studio)
Highly recommended for students pursuing serious ballet training. Floor Barre strengthens, elongates and works turnout using ballet exercises done primarily on the floor. Floor Barre is also is used by those who have injuries or who are recovering from injury.
